Chairman’s Comments: A warm welcome to new and established Staines Group members to our 62 nd Walks Programme , again packed with a diverse selection of walks to choose from. Thanks must go to the Walks Programme Team and our eclectic group of Walk Leaders , without whom we would have no programme of walks. New volunteers are always welcome! On behalf of the committee and members, I would like to thank John Russell for his Chairmanship over the past 3 years, Chris Green (Harrison) our Publicity Officer of 5+ years, and Colin Perkins of the Walks Progamme Team after 1 year on emergency duty. Each stepped down from their roles at the AGM last November. John Russell will be continuing as a committee member and Colin Perkins as our Webmaster/Publicity Secretary. In its 75 th year , the Ramblers National AGM (General Council) 10 th/11 th April 2010 , is being held at Royal Holloway College , Egham. The Ramblers Surrey Area organisers are looking to local Ramblers for volunteers. Please let the Committee know if you can volunteer for various duties on that weekend for a few hours, or more. More details available (call me on 020 8751 5284). Happy Hiking one and all! From the Committee Each year we distribute approximately 1,200 walk programmes. We know that our members enjoy receiving the walk programmes in booklet form, and we are committed to continuing to publicise our activities in this way. However, in common with many charities, Ramblers are experiencing financial pressures and if you are happy to look up our walking programme on the internet, and no longer receive the walks booklet, this could help to reduce our costs. Please let Trish Wigley, Membership Secretary, know by email – twig52@ btopenworld.com, if you no longer wish to receive the walks programme booklet. Christmas Raffle – a message from John Russell A big thank you to all those members who gave raffle prizes and bought tickets for the SSAFA Fund. We were able to send off a cheque for £111.00 Updates by Email We regularly circulate programme updates and group information by email. If you would like to join the distribution list, send your email address and your full name to the Webmaster, Colin Perkins at colinperkins3@btinternet.com Car sharing We generally meet at Staines Railway Station or Staines Leisure Centre or at the car park at Walton Bridge in order to share cars. However, as car sharing is entirely voluntary, a lift to the start of the walk cannot be guaranteed. Please check with the walk leader if in doubt. Drivers often appreciate it when voluntary contributions are made by passengers. As a guide, 15p per mile – calculated on the outward trip only. Passengers, please remove or cover dirty boots and make sure your gear does not damage the driver’s car. Our thanks to the car drivers for their important role of taking members and prospective members to and from walks. Dogs - Regretfully, dogs are not allowed on our walks. Maps and walking books We hold a vast library of walking books and maps. These are available, on loan, please contact Bill Grace. Diary dates – from our social secretary, Sylvie Marie Thursday 1th. All are welcome. Adverse weather conditions Leaders may decide to cancel a planned walk if weather conditions are considered to be hazardous. If walkers are planning to go straight to the start of the walk, it is advisable in harsh weather conditions, to check with the leader that the planned walk is going ahead.
