Programme of Walks No.63 July to October 2010 www.stainesramblersgroup.org.uk THE RAMBLERS’ ASSOCIATION STAINES GROUP COMMITTEE
Emergency Programme Organisers Bill Grace (walk programme entries – dates etc.) Margaret Daborn (putting it all together) Trish Wigley (distribution) Chairman’s Comments: Programme No. 63 has dropped onto our doormats (thanks again to leaders and organisers) with another mix of walks leading us through Summer, into the Autumn of the Ramblers 75th. year. Celebration/publicity walks around Britain will soon reach the South East/London area. Look out for articles in Walk magazine issued to RA members, and see web site: www.ramblers75.org.uk/baton-walks The annual Ramblers National AGM 2010 took place back in April at Royal Holloway College, Egham, announcing the election of Julia Bradbury (BBC TV outdoor theme presenter) to Ramblers President. Ramblers welcomed this news as part of the drive to encourage more people of all ages to join us (124,000+ members) to enjoy the labyrinth of footpaths and access this country uniquely offers, and to support the campaigns to maintain, such as no other walking organisation does, or can. Happy hiking all. From the Committee Updates by Email We regularly circulate programme updates and group information by email. If you would like to join the distribution list, send your email address and your full name to the Webmaster, Colin Perkins at colinperkins3@btinternet.com Edward Glyn has now regained his health after major surgery. Edward has now moved to join Christen in West Kent, and has asked us to thank everyone for their company and friendship over the years. We all wish them both the best of luck for the future. Edward’s mobile number is 07970143244. Ernie Thomas – in memory of Ernie and in addition to the kissing gate in the Chilterns, we have purchased a seat on the coastal path overlooking The Cob at Lyme Regis. The seat is being installed by the National Trust and has been paid for by the balance of the original fund plus an additional contribution from Ernie’s family. Hilary Lawrence successfully completed the “Moon Walk” – an overnight walking marathon in aid of breast cancer charities. Hilary wishes to thank the Staines Group members who sponsored her, helping her to raise over £2,000. Congratulations Hilary – an amazing achievement. Car sharing We generally meet at Staines Railway Station or Staines Leisure Centre or at the car park at Walton Bridge in order to share cars. However, as car sharing is entirely voluntary, a lift to the start of the walk cannot be guaranteed. Please check with the walk leader if in doubt. Drivers often appreciate it when voluntary contributions are made by passengers. As a guide, 15p per mile – calculated on the outward trip only. Passengers, please remove or cover dirty boots and make sure your gear does not damage the driver’s car. Our thanks to the car drivers for their important role of taking members and prospective members to and from walks. Dogs - Regretfully, dogs are not allowed on our walks. Maps and walking books We hold a vast library of walking books and maps. These are available, on loan, please contact Bill Grace.
